EMV POS
Standard magstripe POS terminal simply reads the magstripe and after entering the amount goes online and gets the authorization and prints the receipt and maybe asks for Online PIN for debit cards. Therefore, the parameters are relatively simple, terminal ID, merchant name and address, communications and end of day parameters. Couple of keys for communications and online PIN is all the keys you need to consider for magstripe POS terminals.
EMV terminals need considerably more information like EMV applications list, CAPK RSA key list, EMV parmeters like Terminal Action Codes, etc. The terminal must be able to capture card tags, handle offline and online PIN, CVM cardholder verification methods, EMV scripting, handling ARQC, ARPC and TC cryptograms, advising TC completion codes, etc.
Hence, you need much more complex POS application and corresponding TMS terminal management system and EMV transaction switching system working with an EMV capable HSM for cryptographic functions. The EMV data packets for authorization requests are around 1000 bytes and responses around 500 bytes. Dial up Fast Connect 2400 BPS terminals can do EMV transactions at around 5-10 seconds. Ethernet TCP/IP terminals can do EMV authorizations in 1-3 seconds and we recommend these models because downloading of parameters and software updates will be very efficient as well. Even the slowest 1 Mbps internet connection will be more than sufficient.
Verisoft have extensive experience with Verifone, Hypercom, Magtek, PAX, Bluebird, Castles, Fusions. Beko, Thales and Inpos EMV terminals.
PowerPOS EMV TMS can manage the parameters, key management and remote application downloading of terminal software and transaction switching as well as loyalty and instalment parameters.
